Adult versus Embryonic Stem Cell Therapy

It cannot be denied that stem cell nowadays is the most effective treatment to all kinds of dreaded diseases. Although this treatment is earning controversies around the world, it is still considered as miracle treatment especially for patients who are seeking for the best treatment for their condition. Stem cell therapy is one of a kind because it uses cells within the body to produce a treatment.  It can increase their chances of survival. The therapy is legal and very simple. It doesn’t violate any right of the individual involved. There are debates going on all over the world among many scientists and doctors concerning the two main sources of stem cells namely; the embryonic stem cell and the adult stem cell.

Adult Stem vs. Embryonic stem cell

The stem cell is also known as undifferentiated cells. It has the ability to renew and to develop at least three kinds of cell and tissue. When you talk about embryonic stem cell, this is a cell derived from the early stage of the embryo.  This kind of cell has the ability to regenerate itself to from an adult type of cell. The embryonic cell behaves consistently while under microscopic condition. But it can become very helpful when injected within the body. This type of cell is very useful when it comes to research, and its ability to perform stem cell therapy is still extraordinary.

On the other hand, the adult stem cell is derived from adults. These are the hematopoietic stem cells which may develop into either red or white blood cells. The mesenchymal stem cells can also renew and form tissues such as bone, ligament, tendon, liver, heart, cartilage or nerves. There are diverse sources where adult stem cell can be derived. Adult stem cells can be found at bone marrow, brain tissue, fat, and muscles. Of all the tissues found inside the human body the fat cells have the largest number of mesenchymal stem cells which are used for stem cell therapy. The bone marrow and umbilical blood can produce more stem cells. It can also develop into red or white blood cells. This is very helpful for patients with cancer of the blood such as leukaemia. Since it can be transformed into red and white blood cell, the stem cell can be a great treatment for patients suffering from cancer of the blood because their red blood cell can regenerate instead of having blood transfusion. There is greater chance of survival compare to conventional way of treating the disease.

Both options are great because they promise help to people with severe illnesses. Embryonic and adult stem cells are both beneficial when you talk about the benefits they bring to people. You do not have to worry and think about which of the two types of stem cell is the best. All you have to do is to sit back and relax and allow doctors and scientists to do their work. You simply need to know more about stem cells and how it can help you in the future.
